Vacation in Colorado - Day 4 (Vail, again)
The final day of skiing.... didn't start with a bang. We basically had to convince ourselves that we should go, ya know, since we already paid.... we were in Colorado... all that stuff. We ended up getting out of the house at about 9 or 10am. Not before lounging for a little longer than we had on the previous 3 days. We were beat up, there's no doubt about it.
The last day was definitely gonna be at Vail, which I've come to find out is the largest mountain in terms of number of ski-able acres in the world.... yeah, in the world. Our goal was to meet up with Justin, one of Chris' many friends. Justin was vacationing with his brothers and dad. We did end up meeting them shortly after we got to the mountain. I would let you know where that was, but I'm looking at the trail map, which is broken up into three different sections, and I don't have the slightest clue were we met.
I am happy to report that I was able to keep up with the crew. I think we went down Sun Up bowl and navigated over to the Orient Express lift. I just remember that it took a very long time and I ended up on my ass few times after going through a piles of heavy snow. The terrain was NOT groomed by any means. We took a break for the day at the Two Elk Lodge. Again, I used this as an opportunity to split from the crew. I knew I would be holding everyone back with my ultra-casual riding style (i.e. very scared, therefore very slow at times). After talking to A. Teen, who was holding down the fort back in Arlington, MA, I went down Poppyfields once and then made my way back to Lionshead (where we started for the day). The ride back over to our starting point took over an hour. So, I was, once again, pooped by the end of the day.
So, that about wraps 'er all up, at least in terms of riding. Overall, it was pretty damn good skiing. Unfortunately, we missed the massive snow storm that basically closed the city of Denver for about two days and dumped 2-3 feet in the mountains. But , hey, you can't win them all. We were a week off. It would have been very Kirkwood-esque I'm sure.
